People management skills is an important aspect of a construction safety officer's role. To become a construction safety officer, many people start by taking safety training courses from a recognized institution. In most cases, you'll get some type of certification to prove that you have satisfactorily completed an accredited training program.
Qualifications. The minimum education for safety enforcement officers is a bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, biology or chemistry. Some employers require a master’s degree in industrial hygiene or a related subject. Work experience is also valuable, so many students undergo internships.
OSHA's accreditation program is essentially one of an independent third-party providing an impartial inspection of certain maritime cargo handling devices specifically required to be certificated under OSHA's maritime safety and health standards.
In most cases, OSHA requires site supervisors and workers dealing with hazardous waste to receive 40 hours of initial HAZWOPER training and three days of supervised work experience. At the time of job assignment, site supervisors must have additional specialized training for a minimum of eight hours.
