How To Train For BUD/S: 5 Steps (with Pictures) WikiHow

1. Be prepared. Take the time to prepare for BUD/S in order to complete it and become a part of the elite group of Navy Seals. Before going to BUD/S, familiarize yourself with running, swimming, push-ups/sit-ups/pull-ups and maintaining a good diet.
2. Train well for running. During BUD/S you will run many miles a week. Most of these timed runs will consist of four miles on the beach done in boots, and completed with a 32 minute minimum.
3. Learn to swim strongly. Swimming is another essential skill you must master upon entering BUD/S training. The PST allows for a 500 yard swim of breast or sidestroke in under 12.5 minutes but really try to aim for a score of 9.5 minutes or better.
4. Focus on push-ups/sit-ups/pull-ups as the final exercise set. For the PST test you will need to complete 42 push-ups in two minutes, 50 sit-ups in two minutes, and six pull-ups with no time limit.
5. Choose a good quality, highly nutritional diet. Diets are very important during this time of training and fitness preparation. During BUD/S you will be eating very fulfilling meals three times a day, and four meals a day during what is termed "Hell Week".

2. Naval Special Warfare Orientation (NSWO) Next up? You spend three weeks during this introduction to BUD/S in Coronado, California. This period of training is dedicated to the special operations training lifestyle.
3. First Phase – Basic Conditioning. This stage includes what’s known as “Hell Week” for SEALs. For seven long weeks, the focus is on physical training, water competency, mental tenacity, and developing teamwork.
4. Second Phase – Combat Diving. Most SEAL missions were intended to be aquatic operations, which is why this part of the training is a must. During these seven weeks, Navy SEALs acquire unique underwater skills.
5. Third Phase – Land Warfare Training. This period has the lowest “drop-out” rate as candidates have shown a strong commitment to making it this far in training.
6. Seal Qualification Training (SQT) Stage 6 is the final and longest training stage for Navy SEAL candidates. At 26 weeks long, you’ll spend time focusing on advanced tactical training to join a SEAL platoon.
